I have Hallux Limitus/ Rigidus, what should I do?Updated 2 months ago
What is Hallux Limitus / Rigidus?
Hallux limitus refers to limited motion in the big toe joint (first MTP joint), while hallux rigidus is when the joint becomes stiff or almost immobile. This can cause pain, swelling, and difficulty pushing off while walking or running.
What Causes Hallux Limitus / Rigidus?
Common contributing factors include genetics, previous injury, poor foot mechanics, tight calf muscles, and prolonged use of stiff or narrow footwear. Over time, these factors can limit motion in the big toe joint and affect overall foot function.
What Should I Do to Resolve Hallux Limitus / Rigidus?
Exercises to improve mobility, strengthen the small muscles of the foot, and restore natural movement patterns can help reduce pain and improve function. Gentle stretching and joint mobilization are also beneficial.
